7 Days South Ethiopia Omo Valley Cultural Adventure
Overview
This 7-day South Ethiopia cultural tour explores the spectacular Omo Valley and Rift Valley regions. Visit Arba Minch, Dorze Village, Jinka, Turmi, Omorate, and Konso while experiencing the traditions of Ethiopia’s indigenous tribes. Enjoy boat trips on Lake Chamo, colorful tribal markets, traditional Hamer dancing, and breathtaking landscapes throughout Southern Ethiopia.
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Arba Minch
Depart south from Addis Ababa through the Great Rift Valley, stopping at Lake Ziway to visit the rich birdlife along the shores of the lake. Continue driving to Arba Minch via Sodo.
Overnight: Haile Resort, Arba Minch
Day 2: Visit Arba Minch
In the morning, take a boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit the crocodile market and hippo pods. In the afternoon, ascend into the Gughe Mountains to visit the Dorze people, famous for their beehive-shaped houses and cotton weaving traditions.
Overnight: Haile Resort, Arba Minch
Day 3: Arba Minch – Jinka
Visit local attractions and continue driving to Jinka via Weyto and Key Afer.
Overnight: Jinka Nassa Hotel
Day 4: Jinka – Turmi
After breakfast, drive to the home of the Hamer people. On the way, stop in Dimeka for the colorful local market visited by the Hamer, Benna, Karo, Tsemai, and Ari tribes. At night, enjoy the traditional Evangadi dance.
Overnight: Emerald Lodge, Turmi
Day 5: Visit Turmi
Drive to Omorate and cross the Omo River by local boat to visit the Dassenech tribe. Afterwards, return to Turmi and, if available, attend the traditional Jumping of the Bulls ceremony.
Overnight: Emerald Lodge, Turmi
Day 6: Turmi – Arba Minch
Depart from Turmi to Arba Minch via Erbore, Weyto Valley, and Konso. Visit the Konso people, known for their terracing techniques and carved wooden totems.
Overnight: Mora Heights Hotel
Day 7: Arba Minch – Addis Ababa
After breakfast, drive back to Addis Ababa. End of the tour.
