7 Days Northern Ethiopia Historic Route Tour & Camping Trip to Simien Mountains

Discover the highlights of Northern Ethiopia on this 7-day historic route tour. Visit Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Gondar, the Simien Mountains, and Lalibela while exploring ancient churches, royal castles, monasteries, and breathtaking mountain scenery. This tour combines Ethiopia’s rich history, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, trekking adventures, and cultural experiences into one unforgettable journey.
Day 1: Arrival & Addis Ababa City Tour
Visit Entoto Mountain, the National Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral, and Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa.
Overnight: Triple E Hotel
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar
Visit the island monasteries of Lake Tana including Kibran Gabriel, Entos Eyesus, Ura Kidane Mihiret, and Azwa Mariam. In the afternoon, drive to Tis Abay to visit the Blue Nile Falls.
Overnight: Jacaranda Hotel, Bahir Dar
Day 3: Bahir Dar – Gondar
Drive to Gondar and visit the Royal Enclosure, Fasiladas’ Bath, Debre Berhan Selassie Church, and Kuskuam Complex.
Overnight: AG Hotel, Gondar
Day 4: Gondar – Sankaber
Drive to Debark to obtain permits and continue to Sankaber for trekking in the Simien Mountains. During the walk, there is a good chance of spotting Gelada baboons.
Overnight: Campsite
Day 5: Sankaber – Gondar
Walk to Geech via the spectacular Jinbar Waterfall while enjoying panoramic mountain scenery and giant lobelia plants. Afterwards, return to Gondar.
Overnight: AG Hotel
Day 6: Gondar – Lalibela
Fly to Lalibela and visit the famous rock-hewn churches of Lalibela.
Overnight: Panoramic View Hotel
Day 7: Lalibela – Addis Ababa
After breakfast, enjoy a half-day visit in Lalibela before transferring to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
