Overview

Pick you up at Gondar Airport or your hotel, and drive along a good paved road from Gondar to the park headquarters in Debark. The 100 km journey will take around two hours. At the headquarters, we will arrange our permits to the park and pick up our scout. After that, we will drive for another hour before we start our first-day introductory walk. This first hike is an easy one along the northern edge of the escarpment with nice viewpoints over the foothills and plains of northern Ethiopia. You will encounter gelada baboon along this hike and overnight at Sankaber.

Day 1: July 22th; Arrival to Addis Ababa

Arrival at 6:45 and Ethio Target Tours member are waiting at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Then You will visit the National Museum which exhibits numerous antiquates, historical relics, and archaeological and paleontological objects including the 3.5-million-year-old skeleton of Lucy; one of the fine Ethiopian Orthodox Churches, St. George Cathedral that contains several interesting modern paintings and mosaics St. George Cathedral; Merkato – biggest open market of its kind in Africa and the commanding panoramic viewpoint Mount Entoto which offers the stupendous view of the city.

Day 2: July 23th; Melka Kunture, Adadi Mariam and Tiya Stella,

On this day started at 12:30 Situated 60km southwest of Addis Ababa Melka-Kunture is a famous archaeological site where fossils of the prehistory age, as well as stone tools dating 1.5 million years, have been discovered. A few km drive to this point can be reached Adadi Mariam Cave Church is believed to date back to the 13th century and gives a good indication of the Lalibela rock-hewn churches of the 12th century. Classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, where we can see the northernmost example of a peculiar type of engraved, standing stelae that stretch across parts of southern Ethiopia. These stelae are believed to have been erected between the 12th and 14th centuries and are almost certainly grave markers – recent excavations at Tiya have revealed the remains of young people of both sexes, aged between 18 to 30 years old buried in fetal positions, back to Addis around 18:30.

Day 3: July 24th; Debre Libanos and Blue Nile George

If you think Grand Canyon is impressive, try paying a visit to its Africa cousin – Blue Nile Gorge. Situated 210km north of Addis Ababa and with about one-mile width and depth, the Blue Nile Gorge is one of the most spectacular gorges in the world comparable in scale to Arizona’s version. On the way after a 100km drive is the renowned monastery of Debre Libanos, founded in the 13th century in a magnificent 700m-high canyon. Debre Libanos is an important monastic center for Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, the monastery there was founded by the renowned 13th-century mystic, Saint Teklehaimanot and there is a small cave near the church (which is of recent construction) where he is said to have stood for seven years on one leg until the other wasted away and dropped off. Day 4: Visit Addis Abeba – Departure

On this day which means after breakfast visit a bite in Addis Abeba and shopping in the late afternoon at 07:15 transfer out to the airport.
